The antique map, from which this replica was created, is an early work of the Rand McNally firm in Chicago, pioneers of the cerographic (wax-engraving) process, that allowed for the inexpensive printing of full-color maps. Originally a publisher of maps and timetables for the burgeoning railroad industry, Rand McNally's early maps focused on the expanding web of rail lines that linked nearly every corner of the nation. The various railroads, roads, counties, cites, towns, and geographic features are detailed on this relatively large map.
